Earlier this year, DSIT and the UKRI announced five new research projects that are supported by a £118m investment, including £54m from the EPSRC. One of those projects is the Optical and Acoustic Imaging for Surgical and Interventional Sciences (OASIS) Hub led by Director Prof Dan Stoyanov (UCL) and Co-Directors Prof Sarah Bohndiek (Cambridge) and Prof Dan Elson (Imperial).

This hub will create low-cost, portable devices to detect the early signs of cancer by ‘listening’ for soundwaves and using optical tools. The hub project will start on 1 January 2025 and will be 6 years in duration.
